Beijing You’an Hospital attached to the Capital University of Medical Science is under the jurisdiction of Beijing Health Bureau. It’s a Grade-III Class-A hospital. It serves the patients with infectious diseases. It’s a large comprehensive hospital integrating prevention, medical service, rehabilitation, and health care. As the training base of the Clinical Medical Science School of the Capital University of Medical Science and the Ministry of Health for advanced studies of physicians in infectious diseases, Beijing You’an Hospital shoulders the important task of fostering clinical medicine talents, especially special talents in infectious diseases. It is China’s largest teaching and training base for undergraduates, postgraduates, doctors, advanced-study students, and foreign students majored in infectious diseases. You’an Hospital has been doing the infectious disease teaching work for the Capital University of Medical Science since 1960s. In 1979, it became the master education base of Capital University of Medical Science. From 2001, it began to recruit doctor-degree postgraduates. In 2004, it became the attached hospital and the 9th clinical hospital of the Capital University of Medical Science. We have the infectious disease teaching task for 400 undergraduates of 10 plus classes. We have recruited and fostered nearly one hundred postgraduates.

Beijing You’an Hospital attached to the Capital University of Medical Science has powerful technical strength, advanced diagnosis and treatment skill, scientific and precise management. Especially, it has outstanding advantages and distinct features in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research and management of hepatic disease, venereal disease, AIDS, classical infectious disease, SARS, and other new diseases. It has undertaken more than 70 national, provincial and ministerial research tasks, with 39 million yuan research funds granted, and 50 plus research outcomes gained. It publishes nearly 200 professional papers on core periodicals every year, and publishes more than 20 professional works. As the training base of the Ministry of Health for advanced studies of physicians in infectious diseases, it has trained 1100 professional talents in infectious diseases over 28 consecutive years. You’an Hospital is also a chief member of the Infectious Disease Management Branch, China Hospital Management Society, and chief member of Treatment and Care Working Commission of China HIV/AIDS Prevention and Treatment Association. Particularly, You’an Medical Union was founded jointly by 39 infectious disease hospitals in China in December 2006, laying solid foundation for carrying out medical service, teaching and research of infectious diseases.

As one of China largest clinical, research, teaching and training bases of infectious diseases, the Hospital has made great contribution to China’s infectious disease prevention and treatment over the past decades, winning praise of the Party and government. Dozens of State and Beijing municipals leaders such as Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice Premier Wu Yi visited the Hospital and medical workers. The Hospital was awarded dozens of collective honors such as “National May Day Labor Diploma”, “National March 8th Red Flag Collective”. There are almost ten winners of “Nightingale Prize”, and “National Labor Model” in the Hospital.

The Hospital sticks to fostering medium- and high-ranking medical talents in infectious diseases focused on research and application. It develops undergraduate education moderately, accelerates the development of postgraduate education, enhances on-the-job adult education, and proactively probes into foreign student education. Thus it has the synthetic teaching and talent fostering system with undergraduate education as the foundation, postgraduate education as the highlight, and on-the-job education and foreign student education as the extension. To highlight the central position of teaching, the Hospital founded a teaching leadership team headed by the Hospital Director, together with the Vice Director focusing on teaching. To accelerate the teaching development, the Hospital has developed the five-year plan for the teaching building system of Beijing You’an Hospital attached to the Capital University of Medical Science. Now it is a teaching hospital focusing on clinical service, and will become a hospital attached to the Capital University of Medical Science focusing on research and teaching. Its overall guiding thought is to fully exert the features and advantages as a special hospital of infectious diseases, proactively carry out teaching of infectious diseases at the levels of postgraduate, undergraduate, advanced study students, and adult education, foster and train professionals in infectious diseases who can meet the requirements of new situation, reach its aim of revitalizing the hospital with science and teaching under the guidance of “promoting medical service with teaching, promoting research with teaching” policy, and strive to make greater contribution to the prevention of infectious diseases in China.
